“Just So”

A twenty-five year project that began with a series of inspirational stories, the writing team behind Honk brings us an imaginatively empowering piece of theatre in JUST SO. This wondrous musical weaves five of Mr. Kipling’s most famous tales together into a fanciful lesson about personal courage, individuality and friendship.

“Before the High and Far-Off Times…came the Time of the Very Beginnings” when everything was just so, until Pau Amma the Crab, started playing with the ocean. This caused the lands to flood, disrupting the other animals and putting them in danger. While the rest of the animals accept their sad fate, however, Elephant’s Child embarks on a journey to challenge and overcome the disobedient crab. Along the way, he meets other animals and discovers how the mysteries of their phenomenon came to be.

Set to an eclectic, upbeat score, JUST SO brings imagination and wit into a song-filled journey through the jungle.  Adults and kids to be cast.

“The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe”

Based on the classic story by C.S. Lewis, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is a visually spectacular journey. Fantasy, adventure, and mystery await four siblings when they step through the wardrobe and into the magical land of Narnia—where the icy White Witch rules, and her curse ensures that the land is always crusted with snow. As they travel, the children encounter dwarfs, fawns, and the great lion king, Aslan. Together they seek to fulfill the ancient prophecy and release Narnia from the Witch’s enchantment and her spell of eternal winter.

“Madeline’s Christmas”

“In an old house in Paris that was covered with vines lived twelve little girls in two straight lines.” So begins this delightful story of Madeline’s Christmas! The day begins like any other day. Miss Clavel takes the twelve little girls on their morning walk. They go to the zoo and then back to school for their French history lesson. Suddenly disaster strikes when everyone gets the flu! Everyone that is, except for the ever-resilient Madeline. Saddened that they may not be able to go home for Christmas, the girls and Miss Clavel take to their beds. But on Christmas Eve, an exciting and magical adventure begins.

“Blithe Spirit”

Charles Condomine is a successful novelist. Ruth is his charming, strong-willed wife. In order to conduct research for Charles’ latest book, they invite a medium to their home to perform a seance, expecting that the eccentric psychic, Madame Arcati, will be a humorous shyster. Well, she is humorous – in fact, her boisterous character practically steals the show! However, her ability to connect with the dead is genuine and the fun begins.

“Our Town” 

Our Town is a 1938 three-act play by American playwright Thornton Wilder. Set in the fictional American small town of Grover’s Corners, it tells the story of an average town’s citizens in the early twentieth century as depicted through their everyday lives.

Broadway Stars Camp is collaboration between Chanel Wood Acting and The ACTA Community Theater in Trussville. For 2 weeks, children ages 8 to 18 will be immersed in an intensive Musical Theatre program. Broadway Stars is all about giving students a solid introduction to the three main aspects of musical theatre: music, acting and choreography! 

Camp synopsis/ selling points: The camp opens with an orientation for both students and parents, where we introduce our instructors, outline our expectations for participants, and give the primary camp objectives. The orientation also serves the purpose of making parents and students aware of the camp schedule for rehearsals and performances. 
During the camp, students will learn popular pieces from well-known Broadway productions, with instruction from Industry professionals. Each day, the students will spend approximately 70 minutes with each instructor, working on the individual components of four chosen musical selections. For each chosen production, the students will create an opening scene as well as a complete musical number. All of the camp participants will be included in four numbers, including an opening and finale ensemble performance. 

Broadway Stars Camp is dedicated to introducing students to Broadway, and creating a fondness for the genre. The camp also aims to create a great sense of community and camaraderie, with the goal being to establish lasting friendships. The camp culminates with a fun and exciting performance for family and friends. Are you ready to be a star?

Developing different emotions can be challenging;  however,  it is very crucial to making a performance believable.  In this class students will explore:  monologue preparation,   improvisation techniques and exercises,  their emotional depths,  timing and delivery,  timing and control,  expanding their acting range with character work.

Our performance-based acting classes have students building their skills on the go!  In addition to helping you achieve your own personal acting goal, our goal is to teach you:  cold reading and auditioning skills,   monologue preparation,   improvisation techniques and exercises,   pre-audition and callback preparation,  how to  explore your emotional depths,   eliminate bad acting habits,   stick out to casting directors,   get  noticed at auditions.

ACTA Broadway Bound Troupe  Ages 8 – 18

ACTA is pleased to announce this fun acting opportunity! In Broadway Bound,  students will have the chance to learn basic acting skills such as script memorization, character recognition, timing and projection while learning a play called “15 Reasons Not To Be in a Play!”  There will be an end of the class performance where we invite family and friends to come celebrate our student’s success!
